Based out of Edmonton, Jeremy Maitland is one of Western Canada’s rising young trumpeters. Currently a trumpeter with the Royal Canadian Artillery band, Jeremy has completed degrees at the University of Alberta, McGill University, and a Masters of Music Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music.
As a symphonic trumpeter, Jeremy has had the pleasure of performing with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, as well as sitting principal trumpet of both the McGill Symphony Orchestra, and the Eastman Philharmonia. His band experience has had him perform with many of Canada’s top wind ensemble conductors, the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, and his time at Eastman gave him the opportunity to sit principal trumpet of the world renowned Eastman Wind Ensemble.
As a Military Trumpeter, Jeremy has had the honour of performing for thousands of dignitaries from around the world including: Her Majesty, Elizabeth, the Queen of England and her husband His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh; His Imperial Majesty, Akihito (Emperor of Japan) and the Empress Michiko; Hu Jintao, the President of China; Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michelle Jean, Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and countless other ambassadors and military officials from across the world.
An active freelancer, Jeremy has played solo trumpet on recitals in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New York, and New Hampshire. Specializing in contemporary trumpet repertoire, Jeremy has given multiple world premiers, Canadian premiers, and has actively taken new Canadian pieces south of the boarder in multiple concerts.
An active Educator, Jeremy has given Master Classes at the University of Alberta, and the Eastman School of Music, as well as various schools across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec. He also enjoys teaching in his private studio at home.
Jeremy has studied with such teachers as James Thompson, Jens Lindemann, Edward Carroll, Thomas Stevens, Markus Stockhausen, Alvin Lowrey, and Russell Whitehead.
Jeremy considers himself an extreme foodie, and likes to spend much of his free time cooking. He loves spending time cooking for his wonderful wife Leanne, or any other friends and family in Edmonton, or sitting around drinking a fine single malt from around even finer discussion.
